Households with school-age children and college students can now get free internet for two months, Spectrum and Charter Communications announced Monday. The company is offering speeds up to 100 or 200 megabits per second — depending on the standard speed for the area — and WiFi access for 60 days for those who need it for school, including teachers. The offer is only for households who do not currently have Spectrum and must be in Spectrum’s service area, which includes Lexington. To find out how to enroll call (844) 310-1198.

October Spirit Project
Each month we teach our students about giving back to the community through a service project. Our service project for the month of October is in support of our United States Service Members around the world. Throughout the month of October, students are encouraged to write and decorate letters/cards for service men and women who are deployed during the holiday season. Letters/cards may be dropped off in a designated yellow box outside of the side entry door of the school, on any week day from 8AM-3PM throughout the month of October. If you have any questions, please contact Allie Campbell (email@example.com).

The backpack food program is underway!
Sign up to receive a weekly bag of nonperishable food here https://forms.gle/Zkw7gXvsyW2u6HQ56. After signing up, you have the option to pick up your bag curbside at Veterans Park Elementary, Wednesday or Thursday between 8am-3pm. Just call the front office when you arrive and your bag will be brought out to you (859)381-3161. If you are unable to pick up your bag, it will be delivered to your home on Friday.
Construction at VPE
Construction is ahead of schedule and VPE/FCPS will begin transforming our front entrance to have a secure vestibule. Therefore, we will be routing all building access to the back office door located by the VPE parking lot. If families are coming to school to pick up library books, cafeteria meals, food bags or other items throughout the week you will need to enter the building through the back office door. A buzzer has been installed on the right hand wall to the back office door and office staff are answering the door. The construction project is set to take about four weeks and is planned to be completed by Friday, October 23.
Infinite Campus Parent Portal
As a district, on October 4th, 2020 we are changing all Infinite Campus student and staff accounts to log in with Google authentication. This change will make our student accounts more secure, and will also give our staff and students more login methods.
Access to Infinite Campus for Parents will not change. You will continue to access Infinite Campus exactly as you have before.
Why are you receiving this notification? Starting October 4 at 5 PM the Infinite Campus team at Fayette County Public Schools will implement the Single Sign-On for Staff and Students. As a result you will see the Signal Sign-On in Campus Parent. The SSO button will not work for you! You must use the Username and Password fields to log in (see screenshot below). We have submitted a request to Infinite Campus to remove the SSO button from Campus Parent; however, in the meantime please ignore the SSO button and continue to use the Username and Password fields.
Please alert your student(s) and be prepared to help them in this process as the student login change is significant since students will no longer use their student number as their username.
Students will access IC through either of the following methods:
- Navigate to: https://drive.google.com/ and login with the student's FCPS email address and FCPS account password.
- In the Campus Student smartphone app, click “Single Sign-On (SSO)” and log in with the student's FCPS email address and FCPS account password.
Don’t have a Campus Parent Account? Infinite Campus is an amazing resource that will help you monitor your child's educational progress. Setup your account today at: https://apps2.fcps.net/ic-support/register

We need you! Join the PTA!!
The Veterans Park Elementary PTA is working hard to ensure this year will be great for our virtual learners. Please consider joining today. All are welcome to join: parents/caregivers, grandparents, community members, and businesses. Our membership website is https://vpe.new.memberhub.store. With the processing fees, it's $5.68 per individual member. Your dues will go toward advocacy at the local, state, and national level as we speak up and out regarding the best interests of our students. Our goal is the same as always -- 1 member per student enrolled at VPE. The advocacy of the PTA is crucial right now as decision makers navigate safety and other standards in our COVID-19 world. PTA has a seat at many tables, and by supporting PTA, we're ensuring we have a voice there too.
These are our only major fundraisers for this year! Please take a moment to connect your accounts.
CLIP OR SCAN BOX TOPS! The Box Tops for Education team has worked hard to build a NEW-and-improved, user friendly Box Tops mobile app, available now. Going forward, instead of clipping from packages and checking expiration dates, all Box Tops will be earned digitally by scanning your receipt. The new app features state-of-the-art technology that allows you to scan your store receipt, find participating products and instantly add Box Tops to our school's earnings online. If you still have traditional Box Tops clips at home, make sure to send them to school. We will still earn cash for all clipped Box Tops until they expire. Better yet, you can “double dip” during the packaging transition by clipping traditional Box Tops AND scanning your store receipt containing participating products.
SHOP AMAZON SMILE! A percentage will be donated to VPE when you shop using the VPE Amazon Smile link! http://smile.amazon.com/ch/31-6566058. Don’t forget to bookmark this link so all your eligible shopping will benefit Veterans Park Elementary.
SIGN UP FOR KROGER REWARDS! Please register your Kroger Plus card with Kroger community rewards. When you register, Kroger helps support our school by sending a percentage of each order to VPE. Registration is easy!
- Go to www.kroger.com/account/communityrewards/.
- Log in to your Kroger Plus account.
- Add the VPE organization number DE538.
The VPE office still has 2019-2020 yearbooks for sale. You are welcome to stop by the office between 8:00-3:30 daily to purchase a yearbook. The cost of a yearbook is $15.oo and cash or checks made payable to VPE PTA are accepted.
New locations added! See the additional pick up sites listed below. The Federal government approved FREE meals for ALL kids under 18 so now all 47 meal sites will serve meals to all kids!! Mondays & Wednesdays 11 am - 1 pm. Kids do not need to be present. The cafe will give out three breakfasts & 3 lunches plus a drink on Wednesdays and two on Mondays. Please use the VPE parking lot loop to pick up during construction this month.

The past five months have been difficult for our children and families, who are dealing not only with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic but also the compounded effect of generational injustice. Illness, recurring images of racial violence, poverty, food insecurity, acts of hate, civil unrest, and uncertainty have multiplied adverse childhood experiences and magnified existing trauma.
Whether students are learning through Non-Traditional Instruction, or enrolled in the FCPS Virtual Learning Academy, our District Mental Health Professionals, School Social Workers, School Counselors, Child Guidance Specialists, and School Psychologists are available to provide direct services related to academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs.
To request help, call your child’s school during school hours or the main school district number at 859-381-4100 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Curbside Book Check Out
